Prof. Dr. Sibel Safi

After graduating from Ankara University Faculty of Law in 1991, Prof. Dr. Sibel Safi completed her first master’s degree in European Union Law and Institutions at the University of Bucharest Faculty of Law with an ‘honour’ degree and her second master’s degree in Public International Law at the University of East London Faculty of Law with a ‘merit’ degree. In the last year of her PhD in Public International Law at the University of Bucharest, she studied at the University of East London as part of the EU integrated doctoral cooperation programme and graduated with an ‘honour’ degree.

Prof. Dr. Safi has worked in the field of Refugee Law at the University of East London in the UK and worked on research projects at the CMRB for many years at the same university as a senior research fellow and as a post-doctoral visiting fellow at Queen Mary University Faculty of Law.

Prof. Dr. Safi is a CMRB associate member at the Centre for Migration, Refugees and Belonging at the University of East London and was awarded the title of associate professor in Turkey with her thesis ‘Death by Culture; Accountability in International Law’ published as a book in the UK on 13 March 2015 and the title of professor at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Law with her thesis ‘Refugee Law’ on 22 October 2020.

Main fields of study, Human rights law, jurisprudence disorder in judicial decisions on the basis of the criterion of belonging to a certain social group in refugee law and the proposal for reform of the Convention, EU law, positive effects of the European Convention on Human Rights on Turkish correctional laws, Refugee Law, International Criminal Law, reasons that remove and reduce liability in International Criminal Law.
